ChildrenTheir Impact on the Elderly in Declining HealthUniversity of Alaska, Anchorage This research is designed to estimate the effects of having children upon the general happiness of elderly adults, particularly as the elderly experience declining health. Analyses from the Retirement History Survey suggest that children do not contribute systematically to the happiness of either elderly men or women, nor do children moderate the impact of deteriorating health when controlling for such background factors as marital status, age, and income.
